How This Works

The AI gives the autopsy. The internet decides.

The coroner is not in a hurry

Nothing you do here waits on a machine. Filing a phrase, voting, disputing a verdict, playing the daily: all of it is a database lookup. The coroner works in the background, on phrases that have earned an examination, and its report is cached forever once written. If the model vanished tomorrow, the only thing you would notice is that no new reports appeared.

A report is a first opinion

The coroner hedges on purpose. It is asked to say “likely” and “commonly associated with”, to admit what it is least sure about, and never to invent an origin or a source. Every report carries a confidence figure and a line about its own uncertainty, because a confident wrong answer about where a phrase came from is the worst thing this site could produce.

A human reads it before you do

No report reaches a public page automatically. Each one is written, stored unpublished, and released by a person. The same is true of testimony: a witness statement is read before anyone but its author can see it. Phrases filed by strangers keep their own page immediately, but stay out of the graveyard, the counts, the share images, and search results until they have been looked at.

You can overrule it

5objections mark a verdict Disputed Remains, and the page says so above the coroner’s own words. 3 reports that something is harmful take the phrase down and put it in front of a human, because for an anonymous box that takes slang, removing something early and restoring it later is the cheaper mistake. And 5 sightings from one region make a phrase a regional cryptid, whatever the coroner said about it being dead.

The bill is visible

Every model call is priced and logged before it is made, against a daily cap that is checked in advance rather than after the fact. A model nobody has priced is charged at a deliberately punitive rate, so an unknown model runs out of budget instead of quietly spending. There is a switch that turns the whole thing off, and it is on by default.

What it is not

This is not a dictionary and not an etymology. It is a community archive of a very unserious kind, assembled from votes by people who are mostly guessing, with a machine writing careful first drafts in the background. Treat a verdict here the way you would treat a confident stranger at a party: entertaining, occasionally right, worth arguing with.
